By popular demand it has been requested I give a synopsis of my ordeal from my accident. For all those who were not informed and those who are humble enough not to ask for the details but want to find out, here is the following story.
Prior to my May 20th accident I was taking Pilates mat, and apparatus sessions from Joel for three months; twice if not three times a week. I have also been a fitness trainer for the past two years working out with weights and eating nutritionally well. The night of the accident I took Joel’s mat class.
After the class I went running at about 8pm. I came upon a part of the sidewalk in my route that was slanted. It sloped down one side and sloped up the other within a perfect stride length apart.
I stepped down with my left foot on the down slope, only to fall forward toward the concrete with the momentum and lack of surface that I thought was there. It felt as though you are walking along, and thought there was more sidewalk than there was before stepping off a curb. It catches you by surprise and you stumble and fall. -Same concept.
With my left foot forward first, miss-stepping, falling forward, my torso came parallel to the sidewalk as my right leg swung forward. I felt like a rag doll, everything unfolding in slow motion. I caught my right leg straight on, like a hammer into my hip, cracking the hip socket (acetabulum); from front to back. I would have to say, if I had not taken that mat class that night I would have been in worse shape.
I found myself on the ground on my back. My injured leg was bent with the knee to the sky. I immediately tried to turn over to get up and, but with the most sever, excruciating pain in my hip, I decided against it. It felt like my whole leg was disconnected and would most likely dangle if I stood up. -Gosh how was one to walk home like that! Without a phone or ID I couldn’t call anyone, and because all my knowledge of friends and family is in my phone, I wouldn’t be able to remember a number if my life depended on it. All was left was to try and walk home. Or hope it was late enough for my roommate to come looking for me.
While staring up at the sky wondering if I should try to move again, out of nowhere I heard a voice. And not a familiar one either.
